Why Sodium-Ion Matters

Sodium-ion batteries are structurally more sustainable than the alternatives – in the materials they use, the supply chains they rely on, and the way they can be manufactured at scale. Responsible Material Innovation: Prussian White
Our approach to sustainability begins at the material level. Macsen’s proprietary synthesis is a single-step, single-vessel process carried out under a controlled inert atmosphere. By consolidating synthesis, reduction, and crystallisation into one operation, the route avoids hydrothermal conditions and expensive chemical reducing agents, both of which have historically limited Prussian White’s environmental and economic case at scale.
The resulting process characteristics:
- Low-temperature, low-pressure operation. No high-energy thermal or hydrothermal stages.
- Reduced waste streams. Single-vessel chemistry minimises intermediate handling and the solvent volumes associated with multi-step routes.
- Suited to industrial-scale chemical infrastructure. The route runs on equipment familiar to any specialty chemicals operation, not on bespoke battery manufacturing capital.
